Congratulations, Helen Bradley! Preserve America History Teacher of the Year

Helen Bradley, social studies teacher at Nimitz High School, was selected as the Preserve America History Teacher of the Year for Texas. With that selection, she will compete in the national competition which is sponsored by the Gilder-Lehrman Institute. On September 18, 2008, Helen will be honored with an all-school assembly at which she will officially be presented with the award. In addition, she will receive several commendations from various state dignitaries such as U.S. Senator John Cornyn and other Texas legislative representatives. Congratulations, Helen Bradley! We are proud of you!

Hooray for Olivia Kepler, World Geography teacher at The Academy! Olivia won a $500 classroom makeover from ATPE. With that $$$ she purchased the DVD set Planet Earth, a DVD player, posters, inflatable globes, flags and folk story books. Way to go, Olivia!

Manifest Destiny Eduzine

The mani fest-destiny-eduzine.pdf eduzine is a product from the University of North Texas, the Teaching American History Grant (Building Excellence in History Teachers) partner with Irivng ISD. Traditionally, students have challenges with concepts related to Manifest Destiny. This eduzine (education + magazine) is highly interactive while still appearing in a magazine format. Check it out!

Nimitz HS Students Visit with Supreme Court Justices

Here is an article from the Irving ISD District Weekly as it features Nimitz students who were selected to be part of a session to meet with Supreme Court Justices. Thanks to their teacher, Helen Bradley, for being an important link for getting these students involved in this unique experience.
